I was listening to my friend, and New York Times Bestselling Author, Karen Kingsbury on her radio show the other day and she was talking about showing appreciation to others. She mentioned taking out an ad in the newspaper. At first, I was a little surprised by this idea because it is not something I had thought about doing, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea.

I think this could be a great way to thank someone who serves at your church. Being the son of a pastor, I know what a pastor’s family goes through. Taking an ad out in the paper to thank your pastor’s family could be a great surprise for them. While I haven’t done this yet, here are two tips to consider:

1) Make sure your pastor gets the paper. There are two newspapers that service where I live and we get one of the two. I can imagine that it would be disappointing to take an ad out to surprise your pastor or ministry leader and they never acknowledge that it was done because they did not see it.

2) I don’t know how much it would cost to take out an ad, but a group from the church could get together to do this. A youth group could get together and do it for the youth pastor or the music team could do it for the worship leader. There are so many possibilities with this.
